Jabarekspres.com – The magnitude 5.6 tectonic earthquake centered in Cianjur Regency, West Java, on Monday, 21 November 2022 requires serious attention.
Not only the damaged infrastructure, but also the health of the earthquake victims in Cianjur must be addressed immediately before more lives are lost.
In response, the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Jenderal Achmad Yani (FK Unjani) moved quickly to form a volunteer team and open a donation drive for the Cianjur earthquake victims in less than a day.
One day after the earthquake, on Tuesday morning (22/11/2022) at 10:00 WIB, the FK Unjani Cianjur Earthquake Volunteer Team, led directly by the Dean of FK Unjani, Dr. Sutrisno, dr., MARS, FisQua, departed together with dr. With help from the Cianjur Health Office, especially several FK Unjani alumni in Cianjur, Jabar Quick Response, and the Governor of West Java, Mr. Ridwan Kamil, the FK Unjani Health and Maternity Post was set up at the Kampung Cariu field, Mangunkerta Village, Cugenang District, Cianjur Regency.
The team also reached out proactively to displaced residents in Kampung Babakan Jamaras, Sarampad Village, Cugenang District, Cianjur Regency, who were still staying in tents built by the community themselves.
The FK Unjani Volunteer Team also helped a mother who was an earthquake victim give birth and cared for the mother and the baby born in the evacuation camp, who was named Gempita Sholihah Kamil by Governor Ridwan Kamil.
FK Unjani then dispatched a second batch of volunteers because the demand for health workers was very high due to the growing number of victims and sick people.
The second team consisted of dr. Sony Ramdhani, MH.Kes, dr. On Friday, 25 November 2022, the third batch of FK Unjani volunteers was sent to relieve the exhausted first and second batches.
The third batch consisted of FK UNJANI alumni doctors and clinical-year students of FK UNJANI from the ENT and Psychiatry rotations, to treat the increasing number of acute respiratory infections and to address the psychological condition of the Cianjur earthquake victims.
The donations came from FK Unjani lecturers, FK UNJANI students, and the extended FK UNJANI family. The funds were used to purchase medicines and medical equipment, provide direct aid to disaster victims, and cover accommodation for the volunteer teams. “As a result of this humanitarian work, the ‘UNJANI Medical Emergency and Disaster Response Team’ will be established,” said dr.
