The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Jenderal Achmad Yani Cimahi (FK UNJANI) held an Integrated Community Service activity in Serang Regency, Banten Province, entitled “MEGA BAKSOS: FK UNJANI SERVES”. The activity was carried out by all study programs under FK Unjani and led by the chair of the organizing committee and Head of the FK UNJANI Research and Publication Center, dr. Siska Telly Pratiwi, M.Kes. It involved various members of the FK UNJANI academic community, including lecturers, administrative staff, students, clinical-year students, and the Alumni Association (IKA FK UNJANI), in coordination with the Institute for Research and Community Service of Universitas Jenderal Achmad Yani (LPPM UNJANI).
The community service began with remarks by the Dean of FK UNJANI, Dr. Wendra, dr., M.Kes, FIHFAA, and was officially opened by the Vice Rector III of UNJANI, dr. Dewi Ratih Handayani, M.Kes. During the event, cooperation agreements were also signed between FK UNJANI and Nurul Fikri Boarding School Serang, the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) Serang Branch, and Cikolelet Village.
Siska said that the FK Unjani Mega Social Service was carried out by all departments from the four study programs at FK Unjani. It took place simultaneously at three locations: Nurul Fikri Boarding School Serang, Cikolelet Village, and the Tb Suwandi Hall of the Serang Regency Secretariat. At Nurul Fikri Boarding School Serang, activities included free health checks, eye examinations, Pap smears, ear-wax removal, ultrasound examinations for pregnant women, and screening for urinary tract infections in pregnancy, which can trigger early contractions, premature birth, or other problems affecting the health of the uterus and fetus. There was also a mass circumcision, health education for junior and senior high school students, skin examinations, blood glucose checks, heart/ECG examinations, Basic Life Support training, and a blood drive, involving many components of the Faculty of Medicine, UNJANI: the Departments of Surgery, Ophthalmology, Pharmacology, Clinical Pathology, Anatomical Pathology, ENT, Microbiology, Parasitology, Dermatology and Venereology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Internal Medicine, and Obstetrics and Gynecology, IKA FK Unjani, the Master's Program in Skin Aging and Medical Aesthetics (MPKE) FK Unjani, and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Serang Regency.
In Cikolelet Village, various community service activities were also held, including health education for elementary school students, youth organizations (Karang Taruna), health cadres, local village midwives, and the general public. Topics included healthy adolescence free from dating violence and cadre training on mental health awareness. There were also free health checks for toddlers as part of stunting prevention, and for adults and the elderly to reduce illness from diseases common in older people, such as high blood pressure (hypertension) and diabetes. These activities were contributed by the Departments of Psychiatry, Forensics, Community Medicine, Public Health, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Histology, and Physiology, the Indonesian Army Institute of Biology and Vaccines (LABIOVAK TNI AD), IKA FK Unjani, and the Hospital Administration Study Program. Through this activity, it is hoped that Cikolelet Village can become an FK UNJANI partner village. FK UNJANI also donated medical equipment to help Cikolelet Village have better health facilities close to the community.
At a separate location, the Tb Suwandi Hall of the Serang Regency Secretariat, the Departments of Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, and Bioethics and Humanities held emergency and disaster management training for regency staff and volunteers of FbN Serang Banten. The training also covered legal protection and ethics for volunteers, as well as First Aid. This training is a flagship program of the FK Unjani Medical Study Program.
The people of Serang at all three locations warmly welcomed the activity, as shown by the enthusiasm of residents who came in large numbers to be examined by the FK Unjani community service team.
“This community service is expected to empower the community and improve their quality of life, especially in terms of health, thereby increasing their productivity and self-reliance,” Siska concluded.
